Mobile analytics company App Annie announced today that it has acquired competitor Distimo in an effort to dominate the mobile analytics market and bolster its presence in Europe. Under the terms of the acquisition, the founders of Distimo will assume "key roles" within App Annie and Distimo's Netherlands HQ will be repurposed to serve as App Annie's "R&D center" for Europe. App Annie CEO Bertrand Schmitt laid out a few details of the deal in a blog post, most notably that developers will continue to have access to the same App Annie analytics platform. "What you will see over time is that this acquisition will allow us to accelerate the development and launch of new features, platforms and products that will allow you to deepen the analysis of your own apps and the app marketplace," wrote Schmitt. Distimo CEO Vincent Hoogsteder published a very similar blog post outlining what the merger means for Distimo users. In short: some features of Distimo's platform will be integrated into App Annie's service, and Distimo user data will be migrated over afterwards. App Annie also announced it has raised $17 million from existing investors during a recent round of funding, an unspecificed amount of which went towards bankrolling the acquisition.
