Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced two new executive appointments: Fergal Gara will oversee its UK and Ireland businesses, and Phillipe Cardon will manage France and Switzerland.
The European arm of PlayStation parent company Sony Computer Entertainment announced two new executive appointments on Wednesday. Fergal Gara has been appointed the VP and managing director of the company's UK and Ireland business. Gara comes to Sony from UK supermarket chain ASDA, where he grew the company's entertainment sales (including music, movies and games, which have a larger supermarket presence in the UK than they do in the U.S.). Additionally, Phillipe Cardon has been named the new VP and managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment France and Switzerland. Cardon claims over twenty years of experience in the entertainment industry, and was most recently in charge of international markets for Warner Bros Home Video, where he helped launch its WB Games division. "Philippe and Fergal bring with them a wealth of broad-based experience across some of the leading names in the Entertainment industry, and with it, knowledge and time spent in our own category," said SCEE CEO Jim Ryan in a statement. "They will be key additions to our business and I look forward to working closely with both of them in driving SCEE's business in the future." The company recently announced that it had passed 22 million PlayStation 3 consoles sold in Europe to date, in addition to 50 million units of the PlayStation 2.
