Gamasutra has learned that Stewart Kosoy, a game industry factotum and co-founder of Digital Capital, passed away on Sunday at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Kosoy's career in the game industry was a long and meaningful one, encompassing time spent producing games and managing developer relations at Sega of America and overseeing development at GT Interactive as it published seminal PC games like Quake and Unreal.
He also spent over a decade working to broker deals in the industry at the Interactive Studio Management Agency, where he had a key role in forging the contract between Electronic Arts and Swedish studio Digital Illusions (which would go on to become EA DICE) to publish the original Battlefield 1942.
In 2012 he co-founded the Digital Capital Corporation in Switzerland to solicit investments and offer funding and advisory services to game developers, especially those making digitally-distributed games, at a time when digital distribution was still a nascent phenomenon.
