Heads up, VR devs: Oculus Research has issued a call for research projects "that advance perceptual science as it relates to VR," with $250,000 to distribute between 1-3 proposals it expects to select by the end of the month.

This is squarely aimed at researchers affiliated with academic institutions, so any VR devs with such ties should be aware of the call for proposals. Even if you aren't interested in conducting the research yourself, you might know someone who is -- and you might care to know what specific areas of human perception Facebook-owned Oculus is interested in learning more about.

Per Oculus' guidelines, the company is seeking further research into four broadly-defined areas of human experience in virtual reality:  "self-motion" in VR (roughly: how our perception of our movements affects how we perceive the space around us), multisensory experiences, how people naturally move their eyes in the real world or in VR, and the impact of our motions during social interaction.

Devs curious to learn more can do so via Oculus' formal guidelines, which go on to note that all submitted projects should be designed to wrap up within 1-2 years with the expectation that their findings will be made public knowledge.
