Oculus has suspended Gear VR support for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone "until further notice."

The decision was taken after Samsung began to recall and exchange Note 7 handsets following widespread reports of batteries combusting at will.

As shown on Reddit, anyone trying to download the Gear VR app on a Note 7 is being told all support has been removed.

"Customer safety is Oculus' top priority. Oculus is removing all support for all Note 7 devices on the Oculus platform," reads the statement.

"Until further notice, Note 7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information, please contact Samsung directly."

Samsung has since decided to permanently halt production of its flagship device following a series of internal investigations and quality control tests.
