Newsbrief: Sony announced today that it has licensed more over 1,000 developers to self-publish games on the company's hardware worldwide. A minor but significant fraction of those developers -- 200 or so, to be more specific -- signed on to self-publish with Sony after the company revealed its PlayStation 4 console during a press event in February of last year. It's pretty common to see platform holders trumpeting about their install base or sales numbers, but much less common to see them highlighting seller numbers. The news comes shortly after the company rendered its ATF game development toolset open source and laid off employees at three of its largest UK-based studios.
