A movie based on a strip from the popular Penny Arcade webcomic is in the works, according to media reports. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is bringing an adaptation to the big screen from the comic, created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, called New Kid. The story follows a boy who is forced to change schools as his father gets a new job and moves to another area, with the twist being that the job, and therefore the school, is on a different planet. Rather than being simply 'the new kid', it turns out that the boy is also the only human, surrounded by alien schoolmates. Paramount has secured the rights to the film, with Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta brought on to write the script. Back in October, one of the Penny Arcade characters mentioned on the official blog that the hope was to see The New Kid turned into an animated feature. Earlier this year, Penny Arcade announced PAX Dev, a new conference dedicated to the developer community to be held for the first time this August.
