Newsbrief: The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has almost doubled since January 2015, with the service now boasting 20.8 million members.

The new figure was revealed as part of a presentation given by Sony Interactive Entertainment boss, Andrew House.

PlayStation Plus offers free and discounted games on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and the PS Vita, while it also enables online play for most titles.

Sony first launched the service in 2010 as an optional add-on designed to bring some premium sheen to the PlayStation Network, giving members access to early demos and betas, unique discounts, and free games.
