Longstanding Brighton-based developer Relentless Software has laid plans to open a new studio in Wales using £550,000 (or just over $781k USD) in government funding.

That's chiefly notable for Welsh game makers, as Relentless (which is well known for developing, among other things, the many Buzz! trivia games[pictured]) says it aims to create 70 jobs at the studio over the next 2-3 years.

The company chose Wales as the location of its new studio over Rhode Island after the Welsh government provided the £550k in funding, which Relentless used to help finalize a contract with longstanding partner Hasbro to develop "new projects" based on Hasbro's toy characters.

“This is a highly strategic project and a significant coup for the digital media sector in Wales," Welsh Economy Minister Edwina Hart stated in a press release announcing Relentless' Welsh expansion plans.

Elsewhere in the same release, Relentless director Andrew Eades notes that "We are so pleased by the Welsh Government backing our new studio in Wales. Without their support, we wouldn’t have been able to keep these new products in the UK, which was, of course, our preference."
