Publisher THQ canceled Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed for the PSP, a third-person shooter which was in development by Locomotive Games, due to difficulties with translating the port's controls from the original Wii game. Speaking with consumer site IGN, a THQ representative said of the project, "Big Willy Unleashed was designed by [a] Wii developer specifically for the Wii. When it was ported over to the PSP, the controls simply didn't translate well, and instead of pushing out the product with translated controls, it was canceled." Big Willy Unleashed's Wii version, which was the third entry to the Destroy All Humans! series, was released in February 2008. The title also originally planned for the PlayStation 2 but was canceled in January 2008 along with several other THQ projects, including Frontlines: Fuel of War (PS3), its Juiced and Stuntman franchises, and two unannounced Xbox 360 and PS3 titles scheduled for 2010. The PSP game's cancellation follows THQ's recently announced Q1 results reporting losses up to $27.2 million, three times over the previous year's results for the same period. The publisher admitted in May that it was experiencing a "very tough year" before outlining company-wide plans to restore profitability, such as introducing a new greenlight process, testing microtransaction-supported free-to-play games, and layoffs of some 200 employees.
