Seeing a potential crossover between its credit services and the big spenders for Riot Games' smash hit MOBA League of Legends, American Express is rolling out a new partnership with Riot through prepaid debit cards -- which come bundled with Riot Point incentives. "There is a great opportunity for brands here, particularly brands that make sense for our players [who are] becoming harder to reach on TV and other mediums," explained Riot vice president of eSports Dustin Beck, as reported in the New York Times. "We are about loyalty, we are about contact and long-lasting engagement." Customers who sign up for one of the LoL-themed debit cards will receive 1,000 complimentary Riot Points to spend on champions or items within the game, and an additional 1,000 points for every $20 loaded onto the card. Incentives are also offered for numbers of purchases and for linking the card with a direct deposit account. Stefan Happ, general manager for online and mobile at American Express, said the partnership is geared toward "expand[ing] our traditional reach beyond the mass affluent." The cards are set to be made available this Wednesday, August 14th.
