Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced a partnership with WiFi community FON to provide free FON access points throughout Japan for PSPs, according to a press release translated by game weblog Kotaku. With the PSPxFON service, PSP owners in Japan can access the internet for free and download PSP content at over 44,000 FON spots scattered around the country. Over 2,200 FON spots exist in Tokyo alone. SCEJ intends to provide game demos, trailers, wallpapers, and custom themes. The company noted that a custom theme for upcoming Square-Enix RPG Dissidia: Final Fantasy will also be available. Launched in 2005, FON provides free wireless internet access to its members through FON access points. To join the community, members must purchase a "La Fonera," a wireless router that acts as a public FON internet access point sharing their internet access. The router also provides a private network for the owner.
