Sega announced today that it is set to publish The Cave, a newly-announced adventure game from Psychonauts developer Double Fine Productions, in early 2013. The game has been designed by Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame, and will see a digital download release for home consoles and Windows PC. A teaser for the game suggests that players will assemble a team of three characters and venture out into various environments, ranging from a subterranean amusement park to a medieval castle. Sega's SVP of digital Haruki Satomi said that the move comes as the publisher is looking to expand its digital gaming catalog on various platforms. Gilbert noted, "The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game. I'm thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas." This newly-announced title is being developed alongside the developer's more traditional adventure title, Double Fine Adventure, which gathered over $3 million in Kickstarter funding earlier this year.
