Entertainment production company Skydance Media has shelled out an undisclosed sum to acquire The Workshop Entertainment and incorporate it into the newly-formed Skydance Interactive.

The Workshop forms the core of Skydance Interactive, which is notable in light of the fact that the studio has a lengthy history (after being founded nearly a decade ago by the Treyarch founders) of collaborating on development of games like The Evil WithinArmored Warfare and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Going forward, Skydance Interactive is expected to focus heavily on developing virtual reality games and experiences for the various VR headsets.

Some of that work will be original projects, and some will be tied to extant Skydance Media franchises across film (Star Trek Beyond, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) and television (Grace and Frankie.)
