Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
In an interview with Time Magazine, Sony's Shawn Layden says they plan for all Playstation Neo games to be 100% compatible with the original Playstation 4.
Phil and I are in agreement on that. With this move towards a high-end PS4, it’s not to bifurcate the market. We’re not creating haves and have-nots. There’s only going to be one game on sale, and it will play on both [consoles].

Sony still hasn't revealed much more about the Playstation Neo beyond its mere existence, but during an interview with Time Magazine's Matt Peckham during E3 this week, Sony's Shawn Layden took a moment to clarify that Sony "doesn't want to bifurcate the market," and that games for the Playstation Neo will also work on the Playstation 4.
As Layden puts it, "You’ll have the same experience, but one will be delivered at a higher resolution, with an enhanced graphical experience, but everything else is going to be exactly as you’d expect."
This seemingly matches Xbox head Phil Spencer promise about there being no planned exclusives for their new "Scorpio" hardware, and their claim during their press conference that games will be compatible across the Xbox One, the Xbox One S, and Project Scorpio.
However, neither Sony nor Microsoft have confirmed the exact fate of all future VR games on their platforms, since they've both implied that these new consoles exist in order in part to justify their investments in virtual reality.
