Sony's Project Morpheus has a new name

Sony's virtual reality head-mounted display has been given a new name, with the company revealing that Project Morpheus will now simply be known as PlayStation VR.

Newsbrief: Sony's virtual reality head-mounted display has been given a new name, with the company announcing at its recent Tokyo Game Show press conference that Project Morpheus will now simply be known as PlayStation VR. 

According to Sony's Masayasu Ito, division president of PlayStation product business, the rebrand offers users a "sense of familiarity."

PlayStation VR is set to launch in the first half of 2016.
