UK-based Mind Candy, the company behind popular kid-friendly online game Moshi Monsters, saw a number of layoffs, according to a TechCrunch report, which states up to 30 staff were let go in recent days. Web-based Moshi Monsters launched in 2008 and is Mind Candy’s most popular game, with 80 million registered users as of a year ago. The company has been adjusting to take advantage of the maturing mobile market, and is readying to launch a new game, World of Warriors, on iOS and Android. Even amid layoffs (the company now employs around 100 people), the Moshi Monsters team is still intact, says CEO Michael Acton Smith. “It’s been bumpy. There have been layoffs,” he said. “It’s not ideal, I wish it wasn’t so. But we’re still hiring and very well capitalized.” More at TechCrunch.
