Swedish start-up studio ThreeGates has revealed details on its first upcoming title, an online co-op game that takes inspiration from the likes of Diablo and Baldur's Gate. With Aethereus, ThreeGates is looking to provide an experience suitable for smaller groups of friends to play online together, with their own cities and trading areas. Players will be able to battles other towns, or go on procedurally-generated expeditions together in an attempt to capture creatures and bring them back to populate their town. A crafting system is also in place, allowing players to design and build their own weapons with "limitless customization." Don Geyer, CEO of ThreeGates, noted, "Aethereus is the first title to show what ThreeGates is looking to do with co-op games." "With the Diablo, Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath series setting the standard, there’s a lot of interest in games that enable smaller groups of players to get together and have a really compelling game experience without being in a full MMO world." "While a lot of the development community is moving to social games and free-to-play games, we know we’ve got a game that many gamers will appreciate!" he concluded. The ThreeGates studio was officially announced last month, with Geyer explaining that, "We see online co-op as something that the market is really wanting right now, so we're working hard to fill that void and give gamers a game that they will want to play."
