Take-Two on Monday said its Western-themed open world title Red Dead Redemption, published under the Rockstar Games label, has shipped over 11 million units since its May 2010 release. Developed by Rockstar San Diego, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game was a breakout hit when it released last year as a spiritual successor to the all-but-forgotten PlayStation 2 and Xbox game Red Dead Revolver from 2004. Those shipped figures include 2 million units of the standalone retail disc Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, which also released last year. Undead Nightmare is also available for digital delivery, along with other Red Dead DLC. Strong initial sales of Red Dead during the April-June period last year helped create a challenging comparison to the same quarter this year, as Take-Two reported losses today of $8.6 million, down from profits of $27.4 million year-on-year, and revenues that dropped to $334.4 million, down from $375.4 million. Aside from strong commercial performance, Red Dead Redemption was also critically acclaimed, winning major awards, including Game of the Year award earlier this year at the Game Developers Choice Awards.
