University College London has teamed up with UK trade body TIGA to launch The Games Quarter, a new video game course that will aim to educate new game designers on the most important aspects of game creation. The Games Quarter is CPD-certified, and is made up of 26 evening sessions between June 10 to July 29, with talks given by a wide variety of notable developers and tutors. Representatives from companies like Team 17, 22cans, Microsoft and Codemasters will provide attendees with knowledge ranging from business and finance advice, to design and development know-hows, to marketing and PR ideas. UCL says that rather than providing a qualification, this new course will expose attendees to a network of peers and contacts they can use, and new ways to think about the structure and planning of their games. Prices start from £200 ($337) for studios with five employees or less, and if you are a game studio employee, you should be eligible for 50 percent off the full price. The course is held each Tuesday and Thursday evening at IDEA London on Wilson Street, London. More information can be found on the Games Quarter website.
