The latest on mobile game usage in China

With China now beating out the U.S. as the largest and fastest-growing mobile market, a new report from Flurry suggests China is the place to be for mobile game developers.

We've known for a while now that China's mobile market is surging, taking top position with 24 percent of owned mobile devices worldwide. This alone is good news for mobile developers -- but a new report from Flurry suggests there's even more incentive for Western mobile devs to branch out into the Chinese market. In its most recent China Report, market research and analytics firm Flurry indicates that Chinese iOS users spent 47 percent of their app time in the games category, while Android users in the same market spent 56 percent of their time in games. In both cases, games took up the lion's share of app use. See the following chart, reproduced from Flurry below. With the largest installed base for mobile in the world, and with a growth rate still exceeding the mobile markets for U.S., U.K., and South Korea, China may well represent a potentially huge opportunity for Western developers.
