Almost a year after quitting his position as Blizzard's chief creative officer, former World of Warcraft frontman Rob Pardo is embarking on a speaking tour of Unity studios and developer conferences.
In a new (part-time) role as a Unity creative advisor, Pardo -- whose final Blizzard project was the Unity-powered Hearthstone digital card game -- plans to meet Unity developers across Europe, Asia and North America and write about the experience on the company blog. Unity will publish his tour schedule at a future date, though it's not clear whether developers and studios can request a Pardo appearance.
It's an interesting demonstration of how a career in game design can evolve as the industry expands and matures; Pardo told Games Industry that "I feel like I'm almost in danger of becoming an old-timer in the industry, so I'm excited to go visit some studios that are a little bit younger in the pipeline."
Pardo's concerns echo those of a panel of over-40 developers who took to the stage at GDC this year to rally against ageism in the game industry. His decision to serve as a Unity-focused creative advisor for younger teams is in line with two tips from that panel: adapt to new tools and embrace new audiences.
