As we reported earlier this week, Nintendo has officially ceased hardware manufacture of the original Wii in Japan, concentrating instead on the Wii U and 3DS hardware lines. Today, Nintendo clarified that the discontinuation will not affect original Wii availability in the United States. Speaking with GameSpot, a Nintendo representative said there was "no change in the status of Wii in the United States," and stressed that the hardware would be available throughout the North American holiday season. "The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan," said the representative.
