Mojang and 4J Studios' Xbox 360 edition of indie hit Minecraft has already sold more than one million units globally on Xbox Live Arcade since its release five days ago, according to Microsoft. The game sold for 1600 MS Points, or $20, which means the title generated somewhere north of $20 million in less than a week. Minecraft creator and Mojang founder Markus 'Notch' Persson has noted that the XBLA game was "profitable in an hour" after the game's release. Microsoft Studios, which published the game, previously revealed that the sandbox game had the biggest day-one sales for any title on XBLA when it released last Wednesday. The previous fastest-selling game on the platform was RedLynx's Trials Evolution, which sold over 100,000 copies in a day. Like Trials Evolution, Minecraft was released as part of XBLA's Arcade Next campaign, one of several seasonal promotions Microsoft runs for standout games on the platform (e.g. Summer of Arcade). Titles released under these campaigns tend to enjoy a large number of sales. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition's debut mirrors the success of the game's other releases -- its iOS and Android versions have also passed one million sales, while its flagship PC edition has sold more than five million copies. This 4J-developed XBLA release, which is the only console version for Minecraft, lacks some features from the PC edition, but it offers additions like split-screen multiplayer, in-game tutorials, and a simplified crafting system.
