In its latest push into the market of online casinos, social giant Zynga has acquired Chicago-based Spooky Cool Labs, founded by slot machine veteran Joe Kaminkow. According to TechCrunch, Spooky Cool's approximately 40-person team is expected stay headquartered in Chicago and work in conjunction with Zynga's San Francisco social casino team. It will also be continuing work on its existing titles, including a city-building game based on MGM's The Wizard of Oz. The news of the acquisition arrives only two weeks after it emerged that Zynga was laying off over 500 of its employees, shuttering several North American offices.
