Rendering and lighting tech maker Illuminate Labs says its Beast global lighting solution can now work with Emergent's Gamebryo Lightspeed development platform through a new integration. Licensees of both Beast and Lightspeed can create lightmaps for global illumination from directly within the game editor, the companies say. "Developers now have access to a seamless integration between Beast and LightSpeed’s World Builder tool. This not only gives games built on LightSpeed outstanding lighting, but it also makes it very easy for artists and designers to add global illumination to their scenes and to quickly see the results in the editor and in their games simultaneously," says Emergent VP of Technical and Academic Partnerships John Austin. Beast is a platform-independent pipeline product that allows developers to add global illumination and baking functionality to their internal tools. It integrates with development tech including Unreal Engine, Gamebryo and Evolution Engine, and the company says it can also integrate with in-house engines and has been used in titles like Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Wet. Says Illuminate CEO Magnus Wennerholm: "LightSpeed provides game developers with a flexible and robust environment that made it a pleasure to put this integration in place together with the Emergent team."
