Gamasutra's bi-weekly look at the fastest-growing Facebook titles examines the recent dominance of two Zynga powerhouses, CityVille and FarmVille -- except this time it's the farming sim's new Chinese edition.
[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.] Zynga's CityVille, the most popular Facebook app release ever, saw massive audience gains again in the past seven days, attracting 7.2 million new monthly active users (+8 percent) and now exceeding 100 million total users just six weeks after the game's debut. Many of those new players are from countries outside North America, as CityVille is the first Zynga title to feature an international launch -- from the start, the city-building sim was made available in English, German, Italian, Spanish, and French language editions. Speaking of localized titles, the Chinese version of FarmVille, which launched on Facebook in late 2011, is the second fastest growing game on Facebook this week after grabbing 792,157 new monthly users (up 44 percent), bringing its total up to 2.6 million virtual farmers. At #3, Gaia Online's Monster Galaxy added 669,323 monthly users (up 14 percent, 5.4 million users total), followed by Boyaa's Chinese card game 德州撲克(中文版) with 543,853 new users (up 9 percent, 6.4 million users total), ahead of CrowdStar's It Girl and its 414,440 new users (up 6 percent, 7.6 million users total). After that, we have Zynga's Texas Holdem Poker with 412,795 new monthly players (up[ 1 percent, 36 million users total), TheBroth's Turkish farming game Komşu Ciftlik with 392,456 new players (up 27 percent, 1.8 million users total), and IGG's GodsWar Online with 366,237 new players (up 96 percent, 748,651 users total). A third Chinese game, 上海恺英网络科技有限公司's pet sim 寵物戰爭, is at #9 after gaining 646,130 new users (up 128 percent, 646,130 users total). IGG's Texas HoldEm Poker - Deluxe, not to be confused with Zynga's similarly titled game, grabbed #10 this week with 333,838 new monthly players (up 84 percent, 729,028 users total).
