Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
After two decades of dormancy, David Crane's classic A Boy and His Blob is being reimagined for Wii in lush 2D style by dev house WayForward (Contra 4, Shantae) -- details within.
Two decades after A Boy and His Blob released on NES, an update to the sidescroller classic is in the works for Wii, publisher Majesco has announced. Valencia, California-based independent developer WayForward Technologies is taking the reins the new game, described in today's announcement with the trendy term "reimagining." Since its founding in 1990, WayForward has had a particular focus on creating 2D games, and A Boy and His Blob is being developed in a lush, seemingly hand-drawn style. The studio previously gained a cult following with its 2002 Game Boy Advance platformer Shantae and much wider recognition upon the release of 2007's acclaimed Contra 4. The original game was created by pioneering programmer and designer David Crane (Pitfall), and was one of the last games of his development career. A more obscure Game Boy sequel was released in 1991. In 2005, Majesco (which trades on NASDAQ as COOL) announced a more direct A Boy and His Blob sequel for Nintendo DS, to be developed by Skyworks Interactive, but the project appeared to fizzle out. WayForward's game is scheduled for release in late 2009.
