Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed has held onto the number one spot in both the individual and combined format charts in the UK, despite a 32 percent drop on its launch week sales. With overall sales of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare down 46 percent, Brain Training (aka Brain Age) moves up two places to number two in the individual format charts, in what Chart-Track enigmatically describes as a “record breaking week for DS hardware”. According to a report by UK trade paper MCV, over 191,000 units of the console were sold during the week, breaking the previous record for weekly sales set by the PSP during its launch week in 2005 at 185,000 units. The critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy holds steady at number three, despite dropping two places to number seven in the combined formats chart. That has left BioWare’s Xbox 360 exclusive Mass Effect as the highest new entry of the week at number four. Also new is Nintendo and Sega co-production Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games at number seven. The final new entry in the top ten is the PlayStation 2 version of Need for Speed: ProStreet at number ten, with the Xbox 360 version at number eleven and the PlayStation 3 version at number nineteen. Unlike the previous two entries in the series the game has only debuted at number two in the combined format charts, with lower launch week sales than either previous game. Also new in at number fifteen is the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero III, with the PlayStation 2 version at number twenty-nine. Eidos and IO Interactive’s Kane & Lynch: Dead Men enters at number twenty-four on Xbox 360 and at number thirty-four on PlayStation 3. The final new entries of the week in the top forty are Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (initially released the previous week) at number thirty-three and Disney Friends at number thirty-eight – both on Nintendo DS.
