The post-Christmas sales charts in the UK have seen major changes in fortunes for many of the top titles, with Assassin’s Creed topping both the individual and combined format charts as store discounts and non-gift buying purchases become the dominant factors in the market. After beating other, much newer, titles to the Christmas number one slot in the individual format charts, More Brain Training (aka Brain Age 2) falls to number three, with Assassin’s Creed on Xbox 360 rising five places to number one and the PlayStation 3 version up two places to number five. Overall sales of Ubisoft’s best selling new intellectual property dropped by only 7 percent on the Christmas week, compared to a 37 percent fall for Call of Duty 4. With Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games now completely out of stock in the UK, falling from number three in the charts to completely outside the top forty, the highest ranked Wii title is now hardware bundle Wii Play at number six, followed by Super Mario Galaxy at number ten. Re-entries in the top ten include the more than year old Nintendo DS version of Cooking Mama at number seven, and FIFA 08 on PlayStation 2 at number eight. Electronic Arts’ evergreen soccer simulation only missed out on the number one spot in the combined format charts by around 1,000 units, with both it and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 enjoying renewed promotion at retail.
