D4 creator Swery taking a break from game dev to recuperate

Last week Access Games developer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro published a frank blog post explaining that he's taking a break from the rigors of game development for health reasons.

Last week Access Games developer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro published a frank blog post explaining that he's taking a break from the rigors of game development for health reasons.

It's relatively rare to see anyone in the game development community publicly stepping away from the industry to focus on their health; it's far more common to see developers lamenting the costs of ignoring their physical and mental health until it's too late.

"Starting today, I will be taking a short break from game development, in order to focus on recovering from reactive hypoglycemia," wrote Suehiro. "I've decided that I need to take a rest here, so that I can hopefully continue to make games in the future."

Suehiro most recently wrapped work on the first season of Xbox One adventure game D4, which exemplifies what he calls "sensory replication" in game design and was successfully ported to PC this summer.
