Visceral Games is adding customizable controls to the PC version of its space thriller Dead Space 2 after a disabled player told of his disappointment at not being able to play. Gareth Garratt, a gamer with cerebral palsy who plays video games using his chin, posted on the Overclockers.co.uk forums about his problem. He noted that there is "no way to have the walk forward on a mouse button", hence he was not able to properly play Dead Space 2. The forum thread soon gathered attention as Gareth posted videos of himself playing various games. Gareth urged players to sign an online petition, started by quadriplegic comedian and gamer Chuck Bittner, asking video game developers to including custom button remapping in their games. In a statement today, Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutsis told video game blog Joystiq that the team is "aware of the issue that disabled players are having with Dead Space 2 PC". He added that they are "currently working hard to allow players to re-map key bindings to the mouse which should help disabled players enjoy the game". A release date for the patch will be announced once it has been fully tested. Dead Space 2 released on January 25 in North America on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and on January 28 in Europe.
