Gran Turismo 5 Leads Japanese Charts, Sells 430,000 Units In First Week

Polyphony Digital and Sony's long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 made its debut on top of the Japanese sales charts this week, followed by new titles Super Robot Wars L and the Square Enix developed Mario Sports Mix.

Polyphony Digital and Sony's long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 made its debut on top of the Japanese sales charts this week amidst a host of new releases, reports tracking firm Media Create. For the week ended November 28, Gran Turismo 5 sold 430,707 units, roughly 300,000 more than the second place title, Namco Bandai's Super Robot Wars L for Nintendo DS. The Square Enix developed Mario Sports Mix rounded out the top three with 84,983 units sold in its first week. The Wii sports collection features games such as volleyball and field hockey, and includes characters from the Mario universe, as well as those from popular Square Enix franchises such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Other new titles this week include Spike's Dangan-Ronpa for Nintendo DS and Konami's Power Pro Kun Pocket 13 for PSP. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Subtitles Edition) fell to number six after topping the charts last week, and Nintendo's Super Kaseki Horider fell from number two to number seven. Titles falling from the top 10 this week include Magician’s Quest: The Merchant’s Store of Sorcery, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, and World Soccer Winning Eleven 2011.
