Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
After five weeks on sale, Grand Theft Auto IV has shown the first signs of weakness at the top of the UK sales charts, with the Xbox 360 version still at number one but the PS3 version down two places, as Codemasters’ GRID enters the charts.
The Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has remained at the top of the UK sales charts for the fifth consecutive week, but there has been the first signs that the title’s grip on the charts is loosening, with the PlayStation 3 version down two places to number four. With Wii Fit now almost completely sold out in the UK, and not appearing at all in the top forty, it is evergreen Wii titles Wii Play and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which have moved to take its place. The games saw sales rise 66 percent and 40 percent, respectively this week - with the Wii version of Sega Superstars Tennis also moving up fifteen places to number nine on the back of new retailer promotions. The highest new entry of the week is Codemasters’ racing simulator Race Driver: GRID, with the now more internationally focused title entering at number five on Xbox 360 and at number seven on PlayStation 3. Combined sales of the title reached as high as number two in the combined formats sales charts. With the English school half term stimulating demand, all the top ten titles saw an increase in sales this week, except for Haze at number six and Grand Theft Auto IV - whose combined sales were down 22 percent. Despite continued strong sales in the rest of Europe, in the UK sales of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures fell by 69 percent - down ten places at number thirteen. The only other genuine new entry this week was the Xbox 360 version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars at number twenty, with the PlayStation 3 version failing to chart in the top forty. Combined sales of the console and PC versions though reached number fifteen in the combined sales charts. Overall in the top forty there are twelve Nintendo DS titles, eleven for the Wii, eight for the Xbox 360, five for the PlayStation 3, two for the PC and one each for the PSP and PlayStation 2.
