New York's The NPD Group, London's GfK Chart-Track Limited, and Tokyo's Enterbrain will now jointly release a Top Global Markets Report, letting users track titles, unit sales, share, dollar sales and other stats on the global games biz. The new report tracks titles, unit sales and share, as well as dollar sales and revenue share. Data can be viewed as an integrated total market view or as side-by-side country comparisons. The first released report reveals the top five year-to-date software sales totals for all three regions, with Grand Theft Auto IV at 6,293,000 (not yet released in Japan), Super Smash Bros: Brawl at 5,433,000, Mario Kart Wii at 4,697,000, Wii Fit at 3,604,000, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock at 3,475,000. Further reports will show monthly point-of-sale data for video game software sales in North America, United Kingdom, and Japan, the world’s largest games markets. Said GfK Chart-Track Limited managing director John Pinder: "We are excited to be working more closely with NPD and Enterbrain. This partnership represents a great opportunity to benefit not only our clients but the industry as a whole by providing a comprehensive, industry-supported view of sales across the three largest video game markets."
