Media Molecule's PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has now seen one million user-created levels uploaded since its Fall 2008 launch, according to new data from the official PlayStation Blog. This means a new level is uploaded, on average, every 21 seconds. Altogether, those user-created levels have been played a total of 244 million times, says the statement. Most recently they swept the Develop Industry Excellence Awards in Brighton, taking home wins in the Best New IP, Visual Arts, Technical Innovation, Best New Studio and Best Independent Developer categories. Sony has said that open games that enable and encourage user contributions and creativity are a major part of its strategy for the PlayStation 3.
