Although it has reached the top spot in the combined formats charts, Electronic Arts’ Burnout Paradise has failed to outpace Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games at the top of the UK individual format charts, with sales of the Wii exclusive actually rising by seven percent. The first major new release of the year, Burnout Paradise saw sales almost evenly split between the two formats, with 53 percent of sales on the Xbox 360 and 47 percent on the PlayStation 3. Its release helps create the largest week of sales during the fourth week of the year since Gran Turismo 2 on the PlayStation 2 was released eight years ago. Other movement in the top ten sees Wii Play rising two places to number four – a sure sign of continued high stock of the Wii console. This is also evidenced with the first appearance of Link’s Crossbow Training (bundled with the Wii Zapper) in the top ten at number ten. Once again the Wii has the greatest number of titles in the individual format top forty, with a total of fifteen games. The Nintendo DS has twelve titles in the top forty, with the Xbox 360 having seven, the PlayStation 3 five, the PC one and the PSP and PlayStation 2 none. The only new entries this week are Nintendo titles, with Donkey Kong: Jet Race (aka Barrel Blast) on Wii new at number twenty-four, and Advance Wars: Dark Conflict (aka Days of Ruin) on Nintendo DS new at thirty-seven.
