The first major new stock of hardware and software since Christmas has arrived in the UK, with all but two of the top ten titles being for Nintendo format consoles. After running out of stock before it could claim the Christmas number one, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has also returned, re-entering both the individual and combined format charts at number one. The Nintendo and Sega co-production sold more than twice as much as Brain Training (aka Brain Age) at number one, although with new stock of Wii and Nintendo DS, hardware titles for both formats saw a boost. Even in the combined format charts, half of the top ten was made up of games exclusively for Nintendo formats. Overall 85 percent of sales from the top ten individual format chart is for titles only released on Nintendo consoles, with increases for Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. and Wii Play – the position of which is usually a reliable indicator of current Wii hardware stock levels. Six of the top ten were published by Nintendo themselves, with the company responsible for thirteen titles overall in the top forty. The top forty also saw a total of fifteen Wii titles, all but two of which are format exclusives (Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 08 and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga). A further eleven titles are for the Nintendo DS, with seven for the Xbox 360, four for the PlayStation 3, two for the PC, one for the PlayStation 2 and zero for the PSP. This week also sees the first new entries in the UK charts for 2008, with Sega’s Ghost Squad on Wii debuting at number twelve, just ahead of a re-entry for Wii Zapper hardware bundle Link’s Crossbow Training at number fourteen. The other new entry of the week is Capcom’s Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure for Wii, published in the UK by Nintendo. With a higher profile advertising campaign than in North America the critically acclaimed title has earned a respectable seventeenth placing in its first week.
