Continuing its ever-popular survival horror series, Capcom today announced Resident Evil 6, which is set to release on November 20, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Capcom will continue its popular Resident Evil series later this year with Resident Evil 6, the company confirmed Thursday. The title is the latest in Capcom's flagship series of survival horror games that began in 1996. According to the company, the franchise has sold over 47 million to date between the main series and its various spin-off titles. The game is scheduled debut very soon: specifically November 20 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version planned for a later date. The game will be Capcom's primary focus during its holiday quarter, the company told investors in a statement. This new entry will bring together fan favorite protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield, as well as a host of new characters, who will work together to fight off a series of global bioterrorism attacks. While details about this new title are scarce, Capcom confirmed that the game will feature both single player and cooperative play, much like its predecessor, Resident Evil 5. "From the outset, the team's intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror," said the game's executive producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi. "We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers." Resident Evil 5, the latest major entry to the franchise, saw tremendous success after its launch in 2009. The company today said that the game has shipped 5.8 million units to date. The game received largely positive reviews from critics, though some knocked the game for its dated combat mechanics and frustrating AI when playing without a co-op partner.
