The long awaited launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the UK has seen it become the third fastest selling Wii title so far. The game beat multiformat title Battlefield: Bad Company and a newly restocked Wii Fit in a busy chart week.
Wii exclusive Super Smash Bros. Brawl has debuted at number one in the UK sales charts this week, becoming the third fastest selling Wii title thus far in the UK (behind Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii). Super Smash Bros. Brawl also topped the combined formats chart, becoming the fourth Nintendo title to do so this year and coming in ahead of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield: Bad Company on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With a total of five Wii titles in the top ten this week also saw the re-entry of hardware bundle Wii Fit at number three, which saw a 643 percent increase in sales as stock of the game was replenished for the second time this month. Also on Wii at number four is the heavily advertising mini-game compilation Big Beach Sports from THQ, featuring such diverse sports as cricket and disc golf. The game charted ahead of last week’s number one Metal Gear Solid 4 and the PlayStation 3 version of Battlefield: Bad Company. The highest new entry outside of the top ten is the Xbox 360 version of official Olympics tie-in Beijing 2008 from Sega, with the PlayStation 3 version new at number nineteen. The Xbox 360 version of The Bourne Conspiracy debuts at number twenty, with the PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-five. Also new at number twenty-two is the Wii version of tennis simulator Top Spin 3 from Take-Two Interactive, which charts ahead of last week’s PlayStation 3 version at number twenty-nine and the Xbox 360 version at number thirty. With Wimbledon now in full swing, overall sales of the game are up four places to number eight in the combined format charts. A number of other new entries appear in the lower reaches of the top forty, with Ubisoft’s My Health Coach: Manage Your Weight for Nintendo DS at number twenty-seven. The Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith appears at number thirty-six and the new Xbox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath at number forty. Overall in the top forty there are twelve Wii titles, ten for the Xbox 360, nine for the Nintendo DS, seven for the PlayStation 3, one for the PSP, one for the PlayStation 2 and none for the PC.
