Delayed by the substantial Japanese New Year holidays, Media Create has revealed details of the software top thirty for the week ending December 30th. Traditionally one of the busiest weeks of the year in Japan, a total of five games sold over 100,000 units. The top seller of the week was new entry Super Robot Taisen Original Generation Gaiden, the latest in the long running series of tactical role-playing games. Unlike the core series, which features a variety of different licensed characters, the Original Generation spin-offs feature only original characters – making them more suitable for a later Western release. The PlayStation 2 exclusive sold 197,000 units in its debut week. At number two, Wii Fit sold 135,000 units with various Japanese websites reporting that the game has now sold over 1 million units – although the Media Create total is currently only at 884,000 due to the holiday delay in reporting. Down two places at number three, Mario Party DS sold 131,000 units and the Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy IV a total of 126,000 units. The second highest new entry of the week was also a Square Enix remake, this time of 1996 SNES game Star Ocean. The PSP exclusive release sold 105,000 in its debut week. The remaining new entry in the top ten was also a PSP title, with adventure game and manga/anime tie-in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoku selling 81,000 units. Other new entries in the top thirty include Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PlayStation 3 at number fifteen and the Xbox 360 version at number twenty-two.
