Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
The latest in EA's mega-popular Sims series debuted at number one this week in the U.K., while another THQ title, Red Faction: Guerrilla is off to a strong start, according to the most recent Chart-Track sales roster.
Electronic Arts' The Sims 3 for PC and THQ's shooter Red Faction: Guerrilla for consoles led U.K. sales charts for the week ended June 6, U.K.-based sales tracking firm Chart-Track said Monday. On Chart-Track's sales roster by individual SKUs, The Sims 3 and Red Faction: Guerrilla were the only two new properties on the list in the past week. Both games launched on June 5 in the region, and also launched last week in the U.S. The Sims franchise, launched in 2000 and designed by SimCity creator Will Wright, had sold over 100 million copies worldwide as of April last year. Sims-branded games and expansions continue to be mainstays of PC sales charts. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Red Faction: Guerrilla were able to break the top 10 in the U.K. Community manager J Goldberg with THQ-owned Volition told Gamasutra during E3, "With the acclaim that we're getting from the review scores, we know that word of mouth is going to carry this game." Red Faction: Guerrilla is currently garnering an 85 percent review average on Metacritic. Red Faction: Guerrilla is the second THQ game to have a strong U.K. debut in the past few weeks. The publisher released the licensed mixed martial arts fighting game UFC 2009: Undisputed on May 22 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, when both versions were held off only by Pokemon Platinum for DS in their debut week. Last week, THQ said UFC 2009 shipped 2 million units worldwide. This week, both versions of the game were once again in the weekly U.K. top 10. Also notable is EA Sports Active for Wii, EA's newly-released exer-game which came in at number three for the week, again topping Nintendo's original exer-game, Wii Fit Below are the unit sales rankings for individual platforms for the week ended June 6:
