Numbers have been expectedly down In the first week of sales after the Japanese winter/New Year gift giving season, with not even the number one title selling over 100,000 units. In fact much of the chart is entirely static, with no new releases in the top thirty. The number one selling title is Wii Fit, well ahead of last week’s number one Mario Party DS at 90,000 units to 43,000. The only significant movement in the top ten, stopping the previous unbroken run of Nintendo format titles, is Monster Hunter Portable 2nd at number five. Known as Monster Hunter Freedom 2 in the West, the PSP game was the overall second best selling of 2007 in Japan and its rise of nine places suggests continued strong PSP hardware sales. Square Enix’s Star Ocean: The First Departure also moves up one place to number fifteen, but is the only other PSP title in the top thirty. The highest ranking PlayStation 3 title is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which rises twenty-four places to number fourteen after its debut two weeks ago. The game is also the only Xbox 360 title in the top thirty, re-entering the charts at number twenty-two.
