Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending July 27th, following details of the software top thirty. Although Nintendo DS title Dragon Quest V remains the top selling software of the week, the PSP is still the best selling hardware. Following the release of a new color model for the console last week, sales dropped by around 6,500 units to 67,452. At the same time, though, the console passed the 2 million sales mark in Japan this year. This also leaves it just 11,000 units short of a lifetime sales figure of 10 million in Japan – a milestone which, according to Sony’s own cumulative sell-in figures, it has already passed. The Nintendo DS was the second-best-selling console of the week, with sales up by around 2,500 units to 56,968. Sales for the Wii were almost static, compared to the previous week, at 41,024 units. Sales of the PlayStation 3 were also relatively unchanged, down a little over 500 units to 10,692. PlayStation 2 sales decreased by even less to 9,291 units for the week. Sales of the Xbox 360 though were up by over 500 units to 4,941, with two titles in the top fifty (Bully: Scholarship Edition at number twenty and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock at number forty-four). Overall in the software sales top fifty, there were twenty-one titles for the Nintendo DS, twelve for the Wii, six for the PSP, five for the PlayStation 2, four for the PlayStation 3 and two for the Xbox 360.
