Augmented reality(AR) and virtual reality(VR) allow us to become immersed in a whole new world. From Pokémon Go and other AR games which place strange creatures in our midst, to Oculus VR glasses which can take us on a trip around the world or make it seem like we’re really inside an action game. The world is beginning to adopt AR/VR technology but we’ve only just started to scratch the surface of what is possible with this technology. How do we move to the next level? Enter crowdfunding.
Crowdfunding is one of the most popular ways for new projects and startups to get funded. Instead of having to go to a venture capital firm to get started, startups turn to the crowd. One of the campaigns we’ll take a further look at include LiveEdu, a live and video tutorial learning platform, using crowdfunding to raise money. If you have an interesting project you can pitch it to the community and see if they will back you. Crowdfunding is especially useful for new interesting ideas which need some funding to get started.
Let’s take a look at a few AR/VR crowdfunding campaigns.
Ora-X are the ‘World's First Augmented Reality Headphones’. In fact, they are more than a pair of headphones, they are essentially a wearable tablet. Smart headphones run on the Android platform and can be personalized with your favorite apps and programs. AR technology allows you to see everything in front of you on an adjustable display. Their campaign focused on raising funds for development of the headphones and included a pre-sale.
An ongoing campaign, Datasphere is ‘The New Epic Sci-Fi Virtual Reality Adventure.’ It places you on a journey through a dystopian future using VR. It will be set across various sci-fi backdrops including horror, time travel and more. Their campaign is focused on creation of the game and an accompanying e-book.
LiveEdu is a live and video tutorial learning platform where content creators teach learners how to build real products. You can use practical tutorial projects to learn how to build products from the fields of programming, game development, data analytics, design, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and cryptocurrencies. Their campaign is focused on the expansion of their premium tutorial project catalogue. With the ever-increasing importance of AR/VR technology, campaigns such as this one are particularly noteworthy since they seek to educate the masses on AR/VR.
Gloveone allows you to ‘Feel Virtual Reality.’ Gloveone lets you feel any object you see on a VR screen by transmitting touch sensations and vibrations. This is an interesting piece of VR hardware and their campaign focused on raising funds to further develop the hardware, and ship it out to customers.
FITCADE
FITCADE is where fitness meets virtual reality games. An engaging experience based in Sacramento which seeks to use VR to gamify fitness and make it more enjoyable. Their campaign is focused on creating the first FITCADE and getting the rest of the equipment they need.
Each of these AR/VR projects offers something new to the growing VR and AR world. Hopefully campaigns such as LiveEdu’s are successful so that there will be more resources to educate people on AR/VR. This will undoubtedly lead to more projects such as Gloveone, when more AR/VR projects are made into reality.
