Tech giant Apple has announced that iPad sales have topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3, as games continue to be a major attractor for the touchscreen device. The company had previously revealed one million sales in its first 28 days on sale -- more than twice as fast as the iPhone reached that milestone. Indeed, the iPhone hit one million units sold in 74 days, which means the iPad has doubled that milestone in less time. Apple began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK this past weekend. Apple also noted that the iPad will be available in nine more countries in July, and additional countries later this year, with over 5,000 iPad-exclusive Apps already available, and games the largest subject area. In fact, the increased-size screen, tilt and touch sensitivity and lap-friendly layout have presented new opportunities for game development, and Gamasutra is covering top-selling iPad game titles weekly in association with sister iPhone/iPad weblog FingerGaming. "Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone."
