ATI today introduced the Imageon 100, a new display co-processor for PDAs and mobile phones. The Imageon 100, which is only available to OEMs, supports MPEG-4 decoding, and includes a 2D graphics engine with built-in font caching and anti-aliasing, alpha blending, scaling, and object rotation. The processor accelerates the following functions in the decode pipeline: iDCT, motion compensation, scaling and color space conversion, and includes 384KB of embedded SRAM to support double buffering of images at standard PDA display resolutions (240 x 320 pixels). When combined with external memory, the processor can support 16-bit color up to 800x600. The Imageon 100 is currently sampling, and mass production shipments will start in February.
