ATI Technologies has announced the release of Fire GL 8700. The Fire GL 8700 includes a number of advanced workstation graphics features including:

  • Smartshader, a programmable pixel and vertex shader

  • Truform rendering technology

  • Hydravision desktop management software technology

  • Charisma Engine II, a transforming, clipping and lighting engine

  • Pixel Tapestry II, a 3D rendering engine

The Fire GL 8700 graphics board features 64MB of DDR memory and support for 3D resolutions up to 2048 X 1536 pixels, as well as digital flat panel and dual monitor support. The Fire GL 8700 also uses a 165 MHz integrated TMDS transmitter to support DVI up to UXGA resolution.
