ATI Technologies has begun shipping its mid-range 3D workstation graphics board, the Fire GL 8800. The Fire GL 8800 includes 128MB of DDR memory, DVD video playback, 32-bit color at up to 2048x1536 resolution, and supports DirectX 8.1. The board also features multi-monitor support, OpenGL double-buffer overlay support, and lets you simultaneously run in wire-frame and shaded mode. ATI did not indicate the price of the Fire GL 8800, and stated that initial shipments of the product are going to Hewlett Packard for inclusion in upcoming HP workstations.
