Publisher Atlus has announced it will be bringing R-Type Command, Irem's PlayStation Portable turn-based strategy title based on the developer's hit shooter franchise, to North America this May. Atlus says the game will concern a lone commander taking control of a small armada to fight into the heart of the Bydo empire, in a "desperate war against the mysterious alien race." The publisher says the game will feature "exciting tactical gameplay" as players take control of the Bydo themselves for the first time in the series, with nearly 100 different upgradable units, and local wireless multiplayer for one-on-one strategy battles. Irem first published the PSP strategy title first in Japan in September of last year, locally known as R-Type Tactics. Atlus has said the North American release will be priced at $39.99.
